This is the first NYS Scholar athlete team champion title that has ever been earned by a Lockport High School team.  The team’s 95.775 average was higher than the 500+ schools that play varsity football in New York State.  A brief ceremony was recently held at LHS as Section VI Executive Secretary; Bob Dinse presented the championship banner to the players and coaches.  The banner will be on display in the very near future in the LHS gymnasium.  Pat Burke, Athletic Director at LHS, “We are very proud of these young men and what they have accomplished both on the field and in the classroom.  As a matter of fact, every LHS varsity sport team this fall (2005) had a 90+ academic average and qualified as a NYS Scholar Athlete Team.”  Mike Finn, Head Football Coach at LHS, “This award is a tremendous accomplishment for these young men.  It is a tribute to the players, their parents and the Lockport City School District faculty for a job well done.”

    Schools of Distinction

NYSPHSAA announced that three Section VI schools have achieved the status of Scholar-Athlete “School of Distinction” for 2005-06. Albion, Clarence, and Williamsville East achieved the “School of Distinction” status by having 100% of their interscholastic varsity sports teams earn above a 90.0% grade point average. As a result, each of these districts will be honored and presented with the award at the Section VI Athletic Council meeting, Wed. Sept. 20 at the Erie 1 BOCES Education Campus in West Seneca.

The “School of Distinction” award, in its fourth year of existence, is the highest award handed out in the Scholar-Athlete program. The purpose of the “School of Distinction” award is to unite varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide honor in addition to the already established Scholar-Athlete Team Award program which was initiated in 1991-1992 school year. Congratuletions to the Section VI Schools of Distinction!!
