 Barczak

Bob was the athletic director in the Sweet Home CSD for twenty-five years from 1964 to 1989.  In that time, Bob’s teams achieved a 72% winning percentage while winning 178 ECIC Championships, ten regional championships, and five New York State championships, keeping in mind that during much of his tenure there were fewer state and regional tournaments than today.  Bob’s athletic program won 16 of the first 17 Clarkson Trophies (ECIC Supremacy Award), Sweet Home’s dominance led to the discontinuation of this award.

The Buffalo News selected the 1982-1983 Sweet Home Athletic Program as the greatest single sports year enjoyed by any Western New York school in the past fifty years.

Bob’s commitment to female athletics prior to Title IX mandates was never more evident than his Girls Volleyball program, which gained national recognition when they set a national record of 292 consecutive match wins.

Bob’s vision for high school athletics was unparallel by examples of one of the first all weather track surfaces, one of the first to irrigate and drain athletic fields and one of the first high school programs to hire a full-time athletic trainer.

Sadly, Bob passed away June 6, 2016.
