Career Highlights

  Fred began his teaching career in 1957 at the former Nash Road Elementary School in the Niagara Wheatfield Central School District, where he taught 6th & 7th grades.  He then  started at the newly constructed Niagara Wheatfield High School on September 4, 1958.   He became Administrative Assistant in1961and then Assistant Principal at Niagara  Wheatfield Central School on September 1, 1966 until his retirement in June 1991.

 

Fred was responsible for initiating, planning, and developing athletic facilities, including   football fields, track bleachers, baseball, tennis, and soccer fields.  As an administrator, he felt it was important to be supportive of the students, so he made sure to attend various Niagara Wheatfield sporting events everyday to support all the teams, from football to basketball, both boys and girls sports.  One would also find him as scorekeeper or keeping time at various sporting events held at Niagara Wheatfield.  He also formed the Niagara Wheatfield Community Boosters in 1970 to assist the many sports programs.

  • Inducted into the Niagara Wheatfield CSD Wall of Fame (2017)

 

 Professional Affiliations & Achievements

  • Chairman of the Section VI Football Federation from 1969 to 1982. In 1978, with     the approval and assistance of then Erie County Executive Rutkowski, he negotiated with the Buffalo Bills football organization and Ralph Wilson to hold annual football high school playoffs at the Bills Stadium in which the first playoffs were successfully held in 1979.
  • President of the Niagara Frontier Athletic Council, Administrative Representative (1979-1981)
