     News and Notes

     
    Week 6
    • Orchard Park, Depew and Maple Grove have clinched League titles.
    • Cardinal O'Hara has allowed only 10 pts in 6 games.
    • The Hawks dominated St. Mary's 48-3
    • Southwestern will play Fredonia Friday Night with the winner advancing to the Section VI Class B Playoffs.
    • Orchard Park and Lancaster have clinched berths in the Class  AA playorrs.
    • Playoffs in Classes C & D will begin in week 8.
    • Class C 8 of 10 Teams qualify.
    • Class D 4 teams in each league qualify and will cross over for fames.
    • Falconer is the best in Class C
    • Maple Grove and Randolph are the best teams in Class D.
    • Hamburg (61) & Lake Shore (36) had a combined 97 pts. scored in the game.
    • Cardinal O'Hara and St. Francis are the Class of Msgr. Martin Assn.
    • McKinley is the Class of the Harvard Cup.
     
    Week 5
    • Orchard Park defeated Clarence and Lancaster defeated Frontier to set up a showdown on the October 5th at Lancaster for the League Title.
    • Grand Island upset Albion and the Purple Eagles play at Sweet Home Saturday if Albion loses could mean a trip to a bowl.
    • McKinley domination of Grover Cleveland bodes well for a third consecutive title for the Macks.  Grover Cleveland needs to be more disciplined and focused if the Presidents are to reach the next level.
    • Len Jankiewics and his coaching staff are doing a fantastic job in guiding the Red Skins to a 4-1 mark and a playoff berth.
    • Lackawanna needs to defeat Depew to reach the playoff thus far it has been a disappointing season for the Steelers.
    • Cheektowaga will play at Maryvale October 6th in a game that could decide the second playoff berth in Class A South.
    • Teams in Class C and D have 2 more weeks before playoffs begin.
    • 2007 might have the fewest 1000 yd rushers in a decade.
     
    Week 4
    • Touchdown Headliners:
      • Arvin Bell - McKinley
      •  Reggie Garner- Cardinal O'Hara
      • Jeff Tundo - Orchard Park
      • Dustin Washington - Hinsdale
    • After 4 wks only 10 of 87 schools are left undefeated
    • Chuck Savasta - Kenmore West FG K has booted 4 FG this season.
    • Listen to 1340 at 11:00 am Sunday for High School Football covering Niagara County
    • Len Jankiewicz - Lancaster Head Coach did an excellent job in managing and calling plays in the Redskins upse win over Clarence.

    Week 3

    • Two Thursday Games will be Played Sept 20th Williamsville North at Williamsville South and Amherst at Williamsville East
    • West Valley beat Ellicottville in Wk 2 for the first time in 24 years.
    • Randolph started 0-2 for the first time since 1990
    • St. Joseph's has been shut out in the Marauders first 3 games and have not scored a point.
    • Shutout leaders: Maple Grove 3
    • Surprise Teams:  Cheektowaga, East Aurora, Fredonia, Clymer, Bennett, Wilson
    • Williamsville South ended a 9 game losing streak defeating Williamsville East 15-14.
       The Billie JV's are 3-0 for the season
    • Streaks
      • Cardinals O'Hara has won 20 consecutive games
      • McKinley has won 13 consecutive games
      • Williamsville South ended a 9 game losing streak defeating Williamsville East 15-14

    Week 2

    • Top Winning Streaks - Cardinal O'Hara 19, McKinley -12
    • Losing Streak - Roy-Hart - 18
    • Injuries - Ryan Connolly - Clarence  & Brandon Yarnes - Portville
    • Best Offense - Orchard Park Averaging 42.5 Pts in 2 games
    • WKBW has a WNY High School Football Segment on Saturday Nights after the College Football Game
    • Dick Gallagher Observation:

      • Cardinal O'Hara could very well have a 24 game win streak when the Hawks play at St. Joseph's on Oct. 20
      • McKinley and Grover Cleveland play Sept. 29  and the winner will win the regular season title. The two teams should play for the Harvard Cup Championships.
      • JFK, Cleveland Hill, Cassadaga Valley and Falconer should be in the Class C Semi-Finals
      • Lockport is playing tough for Greg Bronson and will only get better.  Lions play at North Tonawanda in Week 7 and host Niagara Wheatfield on Week 8 in Class AA North.
      • Amherst Complex is Outstanding
      • Sad that some schools had not program for Saturdays games - i.e. Williamsville South
      • Orchard Park is the Class of Class AA South. Will take a monster game by Clarence or Frontier to defeat the Quaker.
      • Class B has achieved parity with several schools vying for Playoff berths. Leagues are not as strong as in the past.
      • There is no clear cut favorite for the Connelly Cup  
      • Brandon Yarnes - Portville ALL-WNY Candidate broke his arm against Maple Grove and is probably lost for the season.
