Criteria for Nomination
The SECTION VI Hall of Fame (HOF) is organized as a means of recognizing athletes, athletic administrators, coaches and contributors. It is the mission of the Section VI HOF to promote our interscholastic programs, our athletes, administrators and coaches while preserving the heritage of Section VI athletics. This recognition is the highest honor an individual can receive from Section VI of the NYSPHSAA. For individuals to be considered for the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame they must first be members in good standing of the Section VI Hall of Fame.
There are FIVE categories of nominees;
- Must have participated in athletics for a Section VI member school for a minimum of two years and must have graduated from said school.
- During and following his/her career, they must have exemplified the attitude and conduct that is a credit to Section VI ideals. The athlete must have conducted himself/herself in such a way as to reflect honor on his/her school, sport and Section. The athlete must have exhibited those qualities of character and standards of conduct consistent with their status as a role model. Section VI reserves the right to remove any individual from the Hall of Fame for personal conduct which reflects discredit upon a school, league or the Section as a whole.
- Must complete the Personal Bio Form once they are nominated
- All nominees shall have merited recognition and distinction in athletic administration and long term contributions to interscholastic athletics. Longevity without significant accomplishments does not constitute appropriate credentials for the Section VI Hall of Fame
- All nominees must have exhibited sustained superior performance throughout their career exemplifying the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, moral character, service, leadership and professionalism.
- All nominees shall be considered on the merits of contribution and achievement to interscholastic athletic administration at all levels-local, state and nationals.
- Must complete the Personal Bio Form once they are nominated.
- All current or retired nominees must have coached at least one varsity program for a minimum of 10 years
- The Selection Committee will give strong consideration to coaches exhibiting outstanding achievement as defined by career wins, league titles, Sectional titles, state championships.
- All nominees must have exhibited sustained superior performance throughout their career exemplifying the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, moral character, service, leadership and professionalism.
- Must complete the Personal Bio Form once they are nominated.
- All nominees shall have merited recognition and distinction while making significant, long term contributions to Section VI Interscholastic athletics.
- All nominees must have exhibited the highest standards of ethical conduct, integrity, moral character, service, leadership and professionalism.
- All nominees shall be considered on the merits of contribution and achievement to interscholastic athletic administration at all levels-local, state and nationals.
- Must complete the Personal Bio Form once they are nominated.

Nomination Form: A completed nomination form from a League or School District -
Personal Bio Form: Sent to the nominee or closest relative/contact person -
Letters of Recommendation: A maximum of three (3) letters of recommendation can be included -
Support Material: The total number of support material pages must not exceed five (5) pages. The five pages are in addition to the nomination form and the three letters of recommendation. -
Photograph: A 4” x 6” or 5”x7” portrait style photograph should accompany the nomination form. Digital photo (jpeg) preferred.
All Nomination Forms must be sent to the Executive Director of Section VI, postmarked by Wednesday May 13 ,2026
Your nominee will need to use the following guidelines when preparing their nomination materials:
- All materials must be submitted on 8.5” x 11” paper
- All materials must be presented in typewritten or computer generated form.
- Do not use notebooks or portfolios with plastic sheet covers.
- Do not use highlighters to outline specific facts or underline or draw arrows to mark copies.
- Nomination form must contain all required signatures.
- Put names on any photo(s)
Biography forms will be forwarded to each nominee in June.
The biography deadline date will be Friday, June 26, 2026
The Section VI Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will be held annually in the month of December of each year.
